You and me both. It was bad enough in my day, what they called an education at Cambridge, but at least at Harrow, they pushed us to learn the basics and the Classics.
((That always helps. Five in RoTM hasn't put it together yet, and Byron was really near pouting, though he took him to Ancient Greece, so he might've forgiven him. Sort of. He's still going to be "that street there? That's eventually going to be named after me."))
Yes. *pauses, considering* I'm currently travelling with one young woman who will break a man's arm for touching her bottom - not that I blame her, mind, even if I don't approve - and another who's entirely too good at smashing pottery over peoples' heads. For a start.
*sighs* I've seen education shift and change the world over, but they can never seem to get it right. I suppose lack of funding and interest doesn't help the system overmuch, and that seems a broad problem.
((*giggles* Aww. That's...entirely too cute, really. Hopefully he'll get the hint.))
*grins a little* It must be something about you that attracts the feisty ones, then.
How they cannot understand that education is one of the hallmarks of the future of civilization, I do not know. Funding shouldn't be an issue, but even moreso this...teaching to tests that they are doing now? What happened to stimulating a child's curiosity and making them want to learn? Not that it was much better when I was a child. They kept saying I was slow, but they merely were not engaging my interest in grammar school.
((lol. He keeps thinking he should know him, but I guess the name and the year 2007 disconnected. Nine was all, "That's fantastic. How are you alive?"))
I can't penetrate that mindset, either - it should be very common sense. Ah, yes, they're doing that about now, aren't they? Dreadful idea, entirely counter-productive. Students should be allowed to pursue their own interests - not to say that Gallifrey is much better in that regard, either.
To think they believed you of all people to be lacking in intelligence...well, it speaks of their incompetence.
((Heh. Maybe Five's just determined for things to make sense for once. *giggles* At least one is direct.))
*dry, rather harsh chuckle* You would, wouldn't you? No, they want people to learn only what will best serve the High Council and their vision of what Gallifrey should be.
I would attemp to protest, but, well, I did snog you. *dissaproving twist of lips that's rather undermined by the faint blush* I suppose that could be filed under 'feisty'?
To think a world could allow itself to become so stagnated - it's one reason I like Earth, you know. Humans, they change all the time.
I suppose I don't want to know what she's told you.
*half dark* Yes, well England is letting same sex partners have legal unions now instead of hanging them or imprisoning them just for being themselves, so I suppose that is progress of a sort.

Date: 2007-03-24 12:20 am (UTC)*wry* I am nearly always too close to the situation which inevitably ends with things being thrown at my head.
Sadly? No. Education these days...
((omg yes. they need that. -- the girls are going to KILL them...kill them dead.))

It improves, for a time. In certain areas.
((I probably shouldn't suggest Lecter as the group therapist. *snort* Quite probably.
...Oh Gods that typo. DOUSES.))no subject
Date: 2007-03-24 12:32 am (UTC)Ah, you haven't seen her in a temper yet? *wry amusement*
That's encouraging.
((*chokes* Um, no. LOL))

Date: 2007-03-24 12:36 am (UTC)Ah, no, fortunately. I'll do my best not to rouse it in the future.
Well - yes, it does, rather.
((Five likes him! ;p))

((I bet they'd get on. Hannibal would probably know who he is, for a start.))

Date: 2007-03-24 11:45 pm (UTC)Is it not? I should think with how very much more your people know that they would be better at passing it on.
*wry shrug* I didn't exactly apply myself for the first few years.

Date: 2007-03-25 10:41 pm (UTC)I'm sorry to say. *sighs, bitterly* It could be quite enlightened if everyone wasn't so utterly afraid of change.
*raises eyebrows* Should I start defending my good name?

Oh, dear. You haven't been talking to Romana, have you?

*chuckles* Ah, but I am very good at remaining aloof and mysterious....

Date: 2007-03-25 11:45 pm (UTC)It's certainly more than Gallifrey has made. The process may have taken entirely too long but at least it was being made.
I never got on well with 'should', I'm afraid.

No, I didn't think so.
